Released in early 2010, the iPad has taken the tech world by storm. By utilizing the same OS as the older iPhone, Apple doubled the market for the iPhone apps that users have come to rely on and love. Of course, many of these required slight adjustments to take advantage of the iPad’s larger screen.

It’s become clear that while iPad users are happy to purchase apps through Apple, there are some amazing free apps being released by iPad application developers . Some of the top ones are listed below.

Netflix has an app that lets users view every streaming video from their library. All you need is a subscription to Netflix, which most people already have for their game player, DVR, or blue ray machine, though some actually still watch old school on their computers or, gasp, by getting a DVD sent to their home.

iBooks is the no-brainer free app. It provides the e-book reader that was the main reason many people bought the iPad. It also offers access to Apple’s iBookstore so that users can sample books and then purchase and download them automatically. Special features include a dictionary, a two-page layout, and the ability to highlight text.

Kindle e-book reader is a must for anyone who wants access to Amazon’s Kindle Store, which has a few more titles than Apple.

Other popular free iPad apps include the ABC(Television) Player, the Epicurious “cook’s companion” and Twitterific for accessing Twitter through your iPad.
